The Past, Present and Future of Chicago’s Tunneling
Chicago has more tunnels than most other cities in the world. Relatively flat topography and favorable ground conditions inspired tunnels to be built and utilized since 1866 with the Lake Michigan Water Intake Tunnel. Presenters will share the state of tunneling in Chicago along with their perspectives and experiences on Chicago’s tunneling, particularly with mega tunneling projects such as the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District’s Tunnel and Reservoir Plan (TARP).
