From the Ground Up: Recognizing Interns, Awarding Scholarships, and Touring Progress

On July 22, our members came together to celebrate summer interns and scholarship recipients with a firsthand look at engineering in action. The day began with a site tour of the Old Orchard Road at I-94 (Edens Expy) project, where attendees saw the bridge replacement and rehabilitation work up close: a four-span steel structure carrying Old Orchard Road over the Edens, from Woods Drive to Skokie Boulevard, adjacent to Old Orchard Mall and Niles North High School. The project also includes intersection reconstruction, MSE retaining walls, watermain improvements, ramp reconstruction, and storm sewer replacement, utilizing a carefully staged construction sequence to keep traffic moving throughout.

Following the tour, the group headed to Bar Siena for an evening of networking, recognition, and celebration — honoring our interns' hard work and awarding scholarships to support future careers.
