Illinois Roads Scholar Candidates and Illinois Public Works Professionals
This Spring, consider training your front-line staffers at the Illinois Roads Scholar Program (IRSP) running from May 6th -10th, 2024 in Effingham, IL.

The IRSP is supported by the American Public Works Association (APWA) Chicago Metro Chapter and offers a fun, comprehensive training program over a three-year cycle. For one week per year, front-line workers will be trained in various public works field services, including:

  • Safety
  • Live Line Training
  • Trenching and Shoring
  • Snow & Ice Controls
  • Traffic Incident Management
  • GIS and Asset Management
  • Flagger Training
  • OSHA 10-Hour Course

Participants who successfully attend all three training years will be designated as an “Illinois Roads Scholar.” Additionally, after completion of the program, graduates will be offered the opportunity to attend a hands-on equipment training session, which can be added as an endorsement to their certificate.

Spread the word and get to Effingham on May 6th-10th for an unforgettable week of self-improvement and hands-on learning!

STIPENDS: Each year, the Chicago Metro Chapter offers $595 stipends to offset the $774 registration fee, supporting front-line workers’ careers with this training. If you have already enrolled and paid for this training, you are still eligible to apply for and be awarded a stipend!

To apply for a stipend, simply email your completed application form and letters of support to committees@apwachicago.net with the subject line “2024 IRSP Stipend Application.” Applications must be received by March 1, 2024. Applicants being awarded a stipend will be notified the week of March 18th.

If you have any questions concerning the stipend application, contact the APWA Chapter Scholarship Committee Co-Chairs: Marc Grigas (marc.grigas@strand.com) or Jeff Maczko (jmaczko@bensenville.il.us)
