Topic Summary:
The interdependence between engineering design and construction phases plays a crucial role in the successful execution and sustainability of any project, especially mega projects.  This topic will be explored in the presentation by utilizing actual Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) projects and project elements.  An overview of CDOT’s programs and initiatives will also be presented.  Join us for a presentation with Soliman Khudeira, Section Chief of Major Projects with CDOT, who will share more about selected CDOT’s programs and his experience while administering Mega project related to this topic.
 
Speaker Bio:
Dr. Soliman Khudeira is the Section Chief of Major Projects with the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT).  He has over 35 years of Civil Engineering experience in the private and government sectors.  He is an Adjunct Professor with the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), where he teaches design of transportation facilities, research problems, and special projects.  He is the Chief Editor of the Practice Periodical on Structural Design and Construction, an ASCE Journal.  He is the past President (2020-2021) of the Structural Engineers Association of Illinois (SEAOI).    He received his BS, MS, and PhD in Civil Engineering-Structures from IIT.   He is a licensed Professional Engineer and licensed Structural Engineer in Illinois. He is a Fellow of SEI and a Fellow of ASCE.  As the Section Chief of Major Projects, Dr. Khudeira has administered various projects of local and national significance, the two Grade Separations of 130th St. at Torrence Ave. is one of these major projects.
