Description of Primary Purpose: Under general supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the maintenance of the Village’s water storage and distribution system. Operates a variety of vehicles and equipment to maintain the Village’s storm sewer mains, sanitary sewer mains, water mains and other infrastructure. Performs other duties as assigned. This position has no supervisory responsibilities and reports to the Utility Supervisor. This position is also a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 150 Public Employees Division.
Required Knowledge and Skills: Performs water sample collection and analysis as required. Member of the Village’s ice control and snow removal team. Responds to service calls, repairs, and replacements for components of the water distribution system. Practices and procedures for safe operations of materials, machinery, vehicles, and equipment necessary for the maintenance and repair of the water distribution system; Occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable for public works maintenance. Reading and following work orders; Use of hand and power tools; Follow safety precautions and recognize hazards; Communicate orally and in writing; Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Required Certificates, License and Registrations: High School diploma or equivalent, valid minimum Class “B” Commercial Driver’s license and Class “C” State of Illinois Water Operators License.
